YOUNG AFGHAN WOMAN FILMAKER AWARDED IN ELBA FESTIVAL


"Do not trust my silence!", a short film directed by the Afghan filmaker Sahar Fetrat, won the first prize in Italy "Universocorto Elba Film Festival", one of the most important short film festival held every year in Europe. Sahar Fetrat was awarded "for the extreme courage of reporting the Afghan women conditions in the streets of Kabul and for the technique of shooting with hidden camera."

Universocorto (in its eighth edition) is an International Short Film Festival for undergraduate and postgraduate students and filmmakers from film academies. The Festival is organized by the Italian association “Giovani persone” (Young peoples) under the artistic direction of Francesco Monceri. The festival this year was headed by Italian fashion designer Antonio Marras and sponsored by the Italian city of Portoferraio (Elba Island). The Afghan section is instead headed by Soraya Malek and Emanuele Giordana of the Italian civil society network "Afgana".

“Do not trust Mi silence!” tells about street harassment in the city of Kabul and was selected with “I sell coals but I love soccer” (Ghullam Abbas Farzami) to participate in the Festival, in collaboration with the afghan association "Afghanistan New Generation Organization". The Festival was founded in 2003 and it started as a festival reserved only for Italian films, but over the years it Became international. From 2012 the Festival created a special section for Afghan cinema.
